MBABANE – Six companies will get to share E3.4 million in the tender for the provision of schools furniture at public schools in different parts of the country.

Tender evaluation results issued by the Ministry of Education and Training Acting Principal Secretary Nompumelelo Dlamini reflects that companies that emerged as best evaluated tenderers were: Glad Tidings (Pty) Ltd, ERG Swaziland, Afritool (Pty) Ltd, LSM Distributors (Pty) Ltd, Baobab Express (Pty) Ltd and Brescia Investment (Pty) Ltd.

The companies outsmarted six other companies that were eliminated during the technical evaluation exercise. A total of 11 companies did not make the cut even to undergo technical evaluation as they were eliminated during the preliminary evaluation.

Reasons for rejection ranged from failure to submit reference letters of similar work done and performance under previous similar contracts, uncompetitive prices, failure to submit a tenderer’s delivery schedule and non-submission of  Value Added Tax registration certificate.

It should be mentioned that some of the companies that tendered for the job could not even provide a valid trading licence, labour compliance certificate and tax clearance certificate.
Further, the evaluation results reflect that the tender was segmented into six lots in accordance with the regions where the companies would be expected to supply.

Dlamini said it was worth noting that due to the increased demand for the single combination secondary desk and chair, the procuring entity intended to award contracts with increase quantities of items.

“There are schools that had requested furniture but were excluded in the priority list because the expectation was that the budget would not be able to address the whole list of requests. The savings will enable the ministry to be able to provide furniture to schools that were left out in the prioritisation process,” said Dlamini.
