Co-founder of Top 100 Johnny Janosik, Mary Louise Janosik, dies at 92

LAUREL, Del. — Co-founder of Johnny Janosik World of Furniture and matriarch of the Janosik family, Mary Louise Janosik passed away on April 21. She was 92.

Born June 24, 1931, she and her husband Johnny Janosik founded the Top 100 furniture retailer in Laurel, Del., and eventually expanded it throughout Delaware and the eastern shore of Maryland.

Mary Janosik was the first woman CEO of the furniture retailer, and she also played a major role in the Laurel Redevelopment Corp., The Boys and Girls Club, The Laurel Hope House as well as the Good Samaritan of Laurel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny, a daughter, four brothers and two sisters. Janosik is survived by two daughters, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be officiated by Hannigan Short Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel, and family visitation will take place at 6-8 p.m. Sunday April 28, at the Hannigan Short Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Del. The funeral service is set for 11 a.m., Monday, April 29, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Seaford, Del., with a burial ceremony to follow at Odd Fellow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Johnny Janosik Charitable Foundation through the Delaware Community Foundation, which provides scholarships for deserving students: DCF, 36 The Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
