London, UK (ANTARA News) - Indonesian furniture has turned out to be excellent product showcased at the Indonesian House located in the eastern most city of Russia, Vladivostok, a statement issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow and received by ANTARA said here on Tuesday.

Indonesian Ambassador to the Russian Federation and Belarus, Wahid Supriyadi, opened the Indonesian House in Vladivostok at the Eastern Economic Forum, the second largest economic forum in Russia.

The idea of Indonesian House was initiated by a Russian businessman, Olga G. Bagryantseva. Since 2015, he has been importing furniture and antique products valued at approximately US$23 million from Indonesia.

President Vladimir Putin has been developing Vladivostok as a gateway to the Russian trade with the Asian Pacific countries.

The Indonesian House in Vladivostok showcases furniture and antiques as well as interior furniture for hotels and restaurants.

On the occasion, Ambassador Wahid held a meeting with about 20 local entrepreneurs, who have been already doing business or are interested to do business with Indonesians.

Ambassador Wahid appreciated the interest that Vladivostok businesses elicited in investing and doing business in Indonesia.

"The momentum is right. After the visit of President Joko Widodo to Sochi in May, the Russian businessmen are increasingly interested in doing business in Indonesia," the Ambassador added.

He noted that that at a time when the world trade was experiencing a slowdown, the trade between Indonesia and Russia in the first quarter of 2016 increased by approximately 17 percent.

The number of tourists from Russia to Indonesia during January-June this year also increased by 17.5 percent.

The ambassador pointed out that there are great opportunities for cooperation between Russia, especially Vladivostok, and Indonesia.

He underlined that with a Russian private airline starting the Vladivostok-Bali flight, the opportunities are wide open for Russian tourists visiting Indonesia.(*)
