MAN FACES 148 FRAUD CHARGES IN CARDS SCAM

MANZINI- One man, 148 counts of fraud! This is the story of Deon Matsenjwa (33) of Emanyeveni, who is alleged to have committed a string of fraud, forgery and uttering a forged document offences last year.


The accused person allegedly used counterfeited cards to buy items such as furniture, house appliances, liquor and groceries among other things. The first offence he allegedly committed was defrauding Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Jabulani Mabuza’s business an amount of E31 131 at his hardware store, Buy Cash, situated at Madlangemphisi.


Matsenjwa allegedly went to the minister’s store and bought building material using a cloned First National Bank (FNB) card.
After a while, it was discovered that the transaction did not go through and the managers at the store called the police, who conducted further investigations.


The accused person allegedly used cloned cards from FNB, Nedbank, SwaziBank, Capitec Bank, ABSA and Standard Bank among others from countries such as Tokyo and China.
Matsenjwa is further alleged to have gone on shopping sprees in different shopping outlets, swiping the counterfeited cards. Stores that were allegedly induced to losses included Edgars and Foschini, where he purchased clothing items valued at over E5 000.


The accused person further bought groceries and food in stores such as Boxer, Shoprite and Nando’s.
Locally, Matsenjwa allegedly induced petrol stations to about E20 000, filling up two of his vehicles, a Toyota sedan and Isuzu van.
The petrol stations include Mbabane Motors, (where he allegedly used a Capitec bank card), River View Filling Station (Standard Bank), Blue Water 2 and Tiger City among others.
