Embattled Maine house candidate drops out of race
A Maine House candidate has dropped out of the race after a week of nationwide criticism surrounding a Tweet where he called a Parkland shooting survivor a "skinhead lesbian."Leslie Gibson, a Republican from Sabattus, was running for the District 57 House seat. A source told WMTW News 8's Paul Merrill that he dropped out of the race on Friday.Gibson had been running unopposed before his controversial Tweet. Since then, Democrat Eryn Gilchrist and Republican Thomas Martin both announced their candidacies.Martin is a former Maine state senator.
