Faulty lifts at flat main cause for dumping furniture

KUALA LUMPUR: Frequent breakdown of the lifts is allegedly among the reasons why residents of Block 102 of the Seri Pantai People's Housing Project (PPR) in Pantai Dalam here, prefer to dispose of old or damaged furniture at the stairs and corridors.
Razak Ahmad, 53, claimed the faulty lifts made it difficult for occupants of the 21-storey flat to carry heavy items down.
"It's hard to dispose of big items (damaged furniture), the lifts are always faulty ... so residents will just leave them at the corridor," he told Bernama when met at the flat here today.
Mohd Yusof Safian, 65, lamented that some of the residents remained nonchalant following the horror of 15-year-old S. Sathiswaran's death on Jan 15. The teenager was killed on the spot after being hit by a chair that was hurled from the upper floor of the flat around 8.10pm.
The retiree who had been living at the flat for almost 10 years said residents were still seen throwing rubbish from the top floor even though the widely reported incident had just occurred.
"The attitude has still not changed, the same thing is still happening ... I am upset with the behaviour of certain irresponsible residents here. The proposal to install netting at the PPR is very good to solve this problem," he said.
Meanwhile, Seri Pantai PPR resident committee chairman Tusiah Sino said when met that Kuala Lumpur City Hall had issued warning notices to residents over the dumping of discarded items at the corridor.
She said the committee would organise a gotong-royong and competition to improve cleanliness at the building.
A check by Bernama found that measurement work for installing the netting was underway. — Bernama
