ALMATY, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan's domestic manufacturing output increased by 7.2 percent year-on-year in the first four months of 2025, Kazinform news agency reported on Tuesday.
Speaking at a government meeting, Kazakh Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev said that the manufacturing sector grew by 7.2 percent from January to April, reaching 8.8 trillion tenge (about 17.2 billion U.S. dollars).
Machine building and the chemical industry both expanded by 111.2 percent, while the construction sector grew by 112.9 percent and furniture production by 114.8 percent, he said.
Nagaspayev noted that the increase in domestic production since the beginning of 2025 has contributed to a decline in imports. He also highlighted upward trends in metallurgy, light manufacturing, and electronics.
He added that one of the "powerful tools" supporting the manufacturing sector is regulated procurement, which prioritizes 4,834 commodity items.
From January to May, Kazakhstan's government bodies signed more than 96,000 contracts worth 303 billion tenge (about 592 million U.S. dollars), representing a threefold increase compared with the same period last year, he said.
In addition, 255 contracts worth 61.2 billion tenge (about 119.7 million U.S. dollars) were signed in the subsoil use sector since the beginning of the year, up 1.8 times year-on-year, the minister added. ■
