New York State Police arrested an Ellenburg man after they said he drove drunk and killed another driver in Altona.

READ WAS SENTENCED TO ONE YEAR OF PROBATION -- AND NO JAIL TIME. AN ELLENBURG MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER POLICE SAID HE DROVED DRUNK AND KILLED ANOTHER DRIVER IN ALTONA. THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY AROUND 6 O'CLOCK. POLICE WERE CALLED TO PLANK ROAD FOR A 2 CAR CRASH. THEY SAY 35 YEAR OLD JOSHUA SNIDE TRIED TO ILLEGALLY PASS A 76 YEAR OLD DRIVER... WHO WAS TRYING TO TURN LEFT INTO A DRIVEWAY. THE CRASH SERIOUSLY INJURED THE PERSON DRIVING. THEY LATER DIED AT C-V-P-H FROM HER INJURIES. SHE HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED BY NAME. SNIDE FAILED A SOBRIETY TEST AND WAS

A North Country man is behind bars after police said he drove drunk and killed another driver in Altona on Tuesday evening.New York State Police arrested Joshua Snide, 35, of Ellenburg after they responded to a serious crash on Plank Road just after 6 p.m. Investigators learned that Snide was driving south in a pickup truck when he tried to illegally pass a 76-year-old female on the left. The victim was also attempting to turn left into a driveway at the time of the crash.Snide crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle, causing the victim serious injuries, police said. She was taken to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital but died of her injuries.The victim, a woman from Mooers, was not identified by name. NBC5 has reached out to police for additional information.Police said Snide fled the scene, but he later returned. Troopers said he failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. He later provided a breath sample at the Champlain Barracks, which indicated that he was drunk. Snide has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, aggravated driving while intoxicated and multiple vehicle and traffic violations. He appeared before a judge and was ordered held at the Clinton County Jail on $8,000 cash bail or $25,000 bond. NBC5 spoke with police on Wednesday afternoon and learned that Snide posted bail and has been released.

Investigators learned that Snide was driving south in a pickup truck when he tried to illegally pass a 76-year-old female on the left. The victim was also attempting to turn left into a driveway at the time of the crash.

Snide crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle, causing the victim serious injuries, police said. She was taken to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital but died of her injuries.
