ROXBURY – A lover of nature, animals and beauty closed her eyes for the last time with her family at her side on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in Manhattan, after a courageous 10-year battle with multiple myeloma. Deborah Jean Sergeant, loving wife of 28 years to Gary Sergeant, enjoyed their home in Roxbury, Connecticut, the town where she grew up, attending Booth Free School in Roxbury, Wykeham Rise in Washington, and later college in Connecticut.
At age 19, Deborah was the first woman bartender at America’s oldest tavern, The White Horse Tavern in Newport, RI during the 1974 America’s Cup yacht races. In her 20’s, she shared her natural beauty and grace modeling for Wilhemina in New York. Deborah displayed her sense of style and creativity as a professional stylist in print, video and television, including prop styling windows for high fashion designers, such as Ralph Lauren at his flagship Madison Avenue store. She later had her own interior design company, Beez, decorating homes in New York and Connecticut.
