1. Nyhavn Harbour
This breathtaking 17th century canal harbour is top of most people's lists thanks to the colourful buildings, waterfront bars and bustling restaurants.
It can get quite busy especially on sunnier days but it's well worth a visit even just to wander along waterside and take in the vibrant atmosphere.
2. Frederiksborg Castle
Situated in Hillerod, this epic castle looks like something out of a story book with its magnificent architecture and picture-perfect gardens.
It also doubles up as the country's Museum of National History so expect plenty of exhibitions and historic artifacts including portraits, paintings, antique furniture and beautiful art, not to mention special events for the children including a dress-up weekend.
3. Tivoli Gardens
This amusement park in the heart of Copenhagen offers an abundance of fun for the whole family.
There are thrilling rollercoasters for older kids and adults, fairytale-inspired attractions for younger children, all alongside a plethora of food options, not to mention the theatre stage which is host to everything from concerts to shows.
4. Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse
A lighthouse may not necessarily seem like the most exciting of attractions, but this is no ordinary setting.
Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse is surrounded by impressive sand dunes along the coast of the North Sea, but it's slowly being buried into the sandy landscape and sea waters - meaning that it's estimated to crash into the ocean by 2020.
While it's no longer functioning, the lighthouse is still a must-see especially if you're after a coastal walk unlike any other.
5. Little Mermaid statue
Arguably one of Copenhagen's most iconic attractions, the Little Mermaid statue has long been a hit with fans of the fairytale - although if you're looking for Ariel you'll be disappointed, as this statue pays tribute to the original tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
6. Legoland Billund
Just like the Windsor resort, the Legoland Billund park offers up a fantastic day out for the Lego-obsessed. We're talking exciting rollercoasters, themed lands, interactive games - in fact, there are over 50 rides to choose from!

7. Kronborg Castle
Also known as 'Hamlet's Castle', Kronborg is a must-visit for literary fans thanks to its links to Shakespeare's iconic play, not to mention the annual festival they host in honour of the Bard.
Even for those who aren't fans of Shakespeare, there's plenty on offer at this 16th century castle from its grandiose banqueting hall and royal chambers.
8. Viking Ship Museum
Head over to this fascinating museum in Roskilde which takes you back in time to the Vikings' era and offers a brilliant insight into how these historic figures lived.
It's also home to five original Viking vessels from the 11th century, alongside a plethora of exhibitions and demonstrations offering a glimpse into how these ships came to be.
A must visit for any history buff.
9. Moens Klint
Forget the White Cliffs of Dover, here it's all about the White Cliffs of Denmark! These impressive chalk cliffs stretch along six kilometres of Denmark's eastern coast and make for a pretty spectacular landscape.
For something truly special, it's worth taking a boat trip and enjoying unrivalled panoramics of these impressive natural formations.
10. Aarhus
The second largest city in Denmark, Aarhus has everything you could want for a jam-packed break including bustling bars, restaurants ranging from laidback dining to gourmet meals, picturesque canals and some impressive shopping districts.
There's plenty to see and do but if you're short on time make sure to include the Old Town on your itinerary for a glimpse into Danish traditions and cultures.
11. Maritime Museum of Denmark
Obsessed with all things maritime? Then this museum needs to be on your bucket list.
Located in Helsingor, the museum has stood proud since 1915 and boasts impressive exhibitions and artifact collections offering a glimpse into Danish trade and shipping industries, dating back as far as the 15th century.
12. Faroe Islands
The islands in this archipelago look like something out of a film set thanks to their sweeping lush green landscapes and dramatic landscapes where you'll find everything from picturesque towns to ethereal waterfalls.
They're a must-visit for anyone who loves the great outdoors, with plenty of activities on offer including hiking, diving, horseriding, birdwatching and even helicopter tour for unparalleled scenic views.
